In the Next Room, Or the Vibrator Play

In the Next Room

Harnessing electricity Dr. Givings treats his patients who he diagnoses with hysteria through vibrators of his own creation. The design called for getting away from the stereotypical sounds that go with vibrators to avoid becoming comical. We utilized free sound files from freesound.org for the sources for the vibrators, the sound of large industrial transformers was what we agreed upon using as they gave the raw feeling of electricity and early handmade mechanics that when modified opened up a gentler side of the vibrators for when they are used. To achieve the transition between the vibrators not being used and being used it was simplest to have two tracks in one file that were panned hard right and left, enabling an easy transition with no fear of awkward bumps or pauses during the run.
